Cristiano Ronaldo responds to tax allegations

Cristiano Ronaldo, the Real Madrid’s iconic player says that he has told a Spanish judge that he has “never tried to avoid taxes”

On Monday, he was questioned in a Madrid court to determine whether he committed tax fraud worth almost €15m. He spent more than 90 minutes answering the questions of investigating judge Monica Gomez.

According to a statement released by his public relations firm, Ronaldo said, “I have never hidden anything, and never tried to avoid taxes.” Gomez took Ronaldo’s evidence as part of an investigation.

In June, a state prosecutor accused Ronaldo of four counts of tax fraud from 2011/14 worth €14.7m. The prosecutor claimed that the Portugal forward had used shell companies outside Spain to hide income made from image rights.

His statement says, “Spain’s Tax Office knows all the details about my sources of income because we have reported them. I always file my tax returns because I think that we should all file and pay our taxes.

“Those who know me know that I tell my consultants that they must have everything in order and paid up to date because I don’t want trouble.”

“When I signed for Real Madrid I didn’t create a special business structure to handle my image rights, I kept the same one that had been managing them when I was in England. It was checked out by the English Tax Office and was found legal and legitimate.”

During Sunday’s dramatic Super Cup win over Barcelona, Cristiano Ronaldo was handed a 5-game ban after his red card and subsequent push on the referee, however, Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has slammed the five-game ban handed to the star.

The French said, ‘’I am annoyed. We are all annoyed and upset. I’m not going to get involved with the referees but, after what happened, to think that he’ll not play for five games, makes you think that something isn’t right. It’s too long for him.

“I hope that when the (committee) meet, they look at it thoroughly. Everyone can have their opinion but Cristiano Ronaldo is upset because he wants to play and when he doesn’t play he’s not happy.

“I hope they’ve not got something against Cristiano Ronaldo and people do their job with integrity. We’re upset that we are not going to have him with us for a long time. We’ll wait to see what happens.”

Real defender Dani Carvajal said, “Cristiano’s ban is excessive. I don’t think (he) wants to undermine the referee and it’s a frustrating situation in which he was unfairly sent off.

“Hopefully they will withdraw the suspension. I don’t know what goes off in the referees’ head, but I reiterate that it’s excessive and even more so putting it in the report so that he got more games. We’re all affected by the suspension, he’s a key player for us.”

To qualify for the last 16, Cristiano Ronaldo broke another Champions League record as holders Real Madrid thrashed Apoel Nicosia.

In 2017, Ronaldo scored twice in the second half to take his tally to 18 Champions League goals in 2017 – the most in a calendar year.

Although, Real have been on a poor run still they picked up their biggest away win in the competition. Now, they will face a group winner in the last 16 as Tottenham won Group H.

With a game to spare, Mauricio Pochettino’s side have wrapped up the group with Spurs’ 2-1 win in Dortmund.

In each of his 2 seasons in charge at Real, Zinedine Zidane has won the Champions League in but at the weekend, Real fell 10 points behind Barcelona in La Liga.

A 3-1 defeat by Spurs at Wembley last time out meant they needed to win in Cyprus to qualify, but that was a formality from the moment Luka Modric volleyed in from 25 yards.

All season, Karim Benzema had scored two times but doubled that tally with 2 neat finishes inside the area, while defender Nacho also headed in. Ronaldo has become the 3rd  player in the Champions League era to score in each of the first 5 games of a season

He has 18 in his last 10 appearances in the competition – and now 113 in total, 16 ahead of Barcelona forward Lionel Messi.

Harry Kane in same bracket as Lionel Messi- Ray Wilkins

Ray Wilkins says Harry Kane deserves to be placed in the same bracket as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

He says: “I think we get a little bit worried when it’s one of our own, to put them up at that level. But I certainly would. For Messi to score 54 goals playing for Barcelona in Spain, an inferior league, and then all of a sudden Harry is getting 56 – it’s a phenomenal achievement.

“Harry finishes off both feet, he scores with his head, and he doesn’t miss many games. I think we can start putting him in that bracket.” According to Wilkins, Kane would have scored more goals than Shearer at the same age.

He said: “I don’t think Harry Kane is in his pomp and that’s the scary part. Shearer in his pomp was a brilliant footballer and we loved watching him. Like Harry, he scored all types of goals, but was more aggressive. Kane has a lot more to offer.”

He added: “It looks as if Manchester City are going to run away with the league, and when they win against Newcastle – I can’t even say if – they’ll be 15 points clear of Manchester United. That’s a six-game swing and I can’t see them even drawing six games, let alone losing six.

“The competition for those next three places is immense but I think Tottenham have the ability. They seem to have gotten rid of this Wembley hoodoo. That’s the second time they’ve scored a bundle of goals at home – against Stoke and now Southampton. Players like [Heung-Min] Son play off the ball beautifully. They are scoring goals for fun.”

He said: “This feeling is incredible. It’s what I’ve always dreamed of. Now, my plan to retire at 41 will probably be a bit more difficult to achieve, and now we live in the moment.”

Cristiano Ronaldo, the Real Madrid forward insists he has no more dreams to achieve in football and can retire happy.

“I never dreamed I would win five Ballon d’Or awards. If I had to finish my career now I would do so super happy. I have won everything. If I win another one, two or three Ballon d’Ors then I will be delighted but if not I already won five.”

When asked if had any more dreams to achieve in football, such as winning the World Cup with Portugal, Ronaldo said: “Sincerely I don’t think I have any. I achieved everything I dreamed of in football. I really think I have achieved so many nice things that I don’t have any more dreams.

“But if you ask me if I want to keep winning of course I do. Obviously I would love to win the World Cup. But if my career ended now I would be very proud. I never thought my career was going to be so nice.”

“We are not the favourites. We have to be honest and humble and understand that in theory there are teams with bigger names such as Brazil, Spain, Germany and Argentina. We are not favourites but anything is possible.”

Cristiano Ronaldo ‘wants to leave’ Real Madrid after blamed of tax fraud

A close source of Cristiano Ronaldo reveals that Real Madrid’s star is “upset” after being accused of tax fraud and wants to leave. The 32-year-old has been accused by Spanish prosecutors of defrauding the authorities of millions of euros in tax, which he has denied.

The close associate of the player said, “He feels he’s honest, has good character and did everything OK. His Real contract has a 1bn euro (£874.88m) release clause. He’s very sad and really upset. He doesn’t want to stay in Spain. At this moment, he wants to leave.”

In 2009, Ronaldo joined Real from Manchester United for £80m and signed a 5-year deal with the European champions in November 2016. Although, China would be one potential destination but his advisers would prefer for him to stay in Europe, most likely either moving to Paris St-Germain or returning to the Premier League.

The Portuguese footballer helped Real win the Champions League 3 times and La Liga twice and is accused of evading tax to the value of 14.7m euros (£13m; $16m) between 2011 and 2014. Real Madrid have released a statement saying they had “full confidence” in their player, and that they were convinced he would prove his innocence.

In 2016-17, Ronaldo helped Real win the Spanish title for the first time since 2012 as well as retain the Champions League. Ronaldo also won the Champions League with Manchester United in 2008 and has scored a record 105 goals in the competition, 11 more than Barcelona’s Lionel Messi, his nearest challenger.

Florentino Perez is re-elected as Real Madrid’s president until 2021

Florentino Perez has been re-elected for another 4 years as a Real Madrid president.  The 70-year-old, who is in his second spell as president, stood unopposed for the post.

Perez held the position for the 1st time between 2000 and 2006, a period during which Real signed Luis Figo, David Beckham and Ronaldo and returned in 2009, as the club bought Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka, Karim Benzema and Xabi Alonso.

The future of Cristiano Ronaldo at the Bernabeu remains unclear as he told the club he wants to leave. During his 1st spell, Perez employed 6managers as Real won two La Liga titles and the Champions League.

In response to clubs 3-year drought of any major trophy, he resigned in February 2006. Last season, Real Madrid became the first side to retain the Champions League and won the Spanish title for the first time since 2012.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s next No 1 destination

According to football marketing experts, Manchester United are the only obvious club that could afford Cristiano Ronaldo. The Real Madrid forward wants to leave Spain and it is speculated that he could possibly return to United, who sold him in the summer of 2009 for £80m.

While Ronaldo tops the wishlist in the Chinese Super League, which saw its transfer window open on Monday, football marketing expert Esteve Calzada explained why United are the most likely destination for the player.

He said, “If there is a team that can finance it of course it is Manchester United, though he would make more of an impact at other teams that don’t have such an impressive commercial appeal. Manchester United will save the big salary of [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic, they are back in the Champions League and receive the financial benefits of that. Definitely United will be in a position to afford this deal.’’

He added, “The fact that he [Ronaldo] wants to leave the club can help drive the price down. Even China is becoming more difficult because of the new tax, which means any transfer fee that is agreed, you have to pay the same amount in tax.’’

“When you come to Europe there are very few clubs that could afford him. Real Madrid is one, and United, then Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern [Munich] and Juventus, but those teams would probably have to sell players.’’

Lionel Messi vs Cristiano Ronaldo

$
0
0

Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are the two best footballers of this generation by far. Both have achieved similar feats and the feats that most footballers only dream of achieving in their careers. Ronaldo and Messi have won various team and individual accolades during their career span but have divided opinion on who is better than who. Both stars enjoy a healthy relationship but their fans are more like enemies, who can put their life to prove that their candidate is better.

Here we will have a comparison on both stars attributes and strengths (even though we won’t pick a winner)

Ball Control:

Lionel Messi is just mesmerizing with ball in his feet. It feels like the ball has been glued with his feet as he makes his through the crowded defense of the opposition. Messi’s ball control is arguably the best a footballer has ever had. Ronaldo on the other hand depends on his trickery and pace to dribble past the defenders but Messi simply glides past defenders with ball in his feet

Heading Ability:

Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the greatest headers of the ball. From the timing of his jump to the placement of the ball, he is the best in business. He puts in real neck muscle when he attacks the ball with his head. Messi is quite weak in this aspect of his game. Messi has been known for avoiding to head the ball as he had missed some straight forward headers in his exceptional career.

Free Kicks:

Cristiano Ronaldo has worked on this aspect of his game but has never really challenged Messi for top spot (yes, there are better free kick takers but we are comparing these two only). Ronaldo invented his very own knuckle ball free kick and show cased what he is capable of with some epic free kick goals to date but Messi has the edge over Ronaldo with his curling free kicks. Messi can curve the ball around the wall and right into the top corner leaving goalkeepers with no other choice than to stay still and watch as he celebrates his goal.

Style:

Cristiano Ronaldo gets the edge here as he is the most charismatic player to grace the field in recent history with his perfectly detailed abs to his finely trimmed eyebrows, he rocks the field with every action just by adding his very own X-factor. Messi on the other hand, sticks to old school with his traditional celebrations. Ronald has worked very hard on his physical appearance and has detailed each and every muscle while Messi has not been up to the standards of CR7 regarding refining his body.

Both players have been inspirational for their respective clubs and countries. Both of them make up for their game in some other aspect of the game for what they lack in their game. Both of them are world class and absolute legends however Ronaldo has earned a slight advantage over Messi as he inspired his Nation to the Euro 16 title. Messi is still only 29 years old and don’t be surprised to see him better Ronaldo’s record as he has time on his side.
